چکیده

Objectives: The objectives of this post hoc analysis was to describe the characteristics of cardiopulmonary indicators among patients with normal ventilator weaning response and dysfunctional ventilator weaning response after coronary artery bypass graft surgery, and to find the differences in characteristics of cardiopulmonary indicators between patients with normal ventilator weaning response and dysfunctional ventilator weaning response after coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Materials and Methods: A post hoc analysis was performed using available data. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to describe and compare the data. Available data was collected using a retrospective chart audit of the patients who underwent coronary artery bypass graft surgery. All the statistical significance tests were performed as two-tailed tests. A p value of < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The results revealed that there are significant differences between patients with normal ventilator weaning response and dysfunctional ventilator weaning response in the trends of cardiopulmonary indicators including respiratory rate, cardiac output, cardiac index, pulmonary artery diastolic pressure, and pulmonary artery systolic pressure during the first eight post-operative hours of coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Conclusions: Cardiopulmonary indicators may be used to assess the ventilator weaning process following coronary artery bypass graft surgery. The results may have implications to the assessment, planning, providing, evaluating, and coordinating post-operative care for patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery.

Post hoc analysis of the glutamics–trial: intravenous glutamate infusion and use of inotropic drugs after cabg

BACKGROUND Intravenous glutamate reduced the risk of developing severe circulatory failure after isolated coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in a double-blind randomised clinical trial (GLUTAMICS-ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT00489827 ). Here our aim was to study if glutamate was associated with reduced the use of inotropes. METHODS Post-hoc anal...

End-tidal CO2 for prediction of cardiac output following weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass.

This prospective study included 32 patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) for elective coronary artery bypass grafting correlates the respiratory end-tidal CO2 (ETCO2) during partial separation from CPB with cardiac output (CO) following weaning from CPB. After induction of general anesthesia, a pulmonary artery catheter was inserted for measurement of cardiac output by thermodilution...

Chest drainage and its associated factors in patients who undergone coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU)

Introduction: Cardiac surgery is one of the common therapeutic interventions in patients with coronary artery disease. However, this therapeutic method has various complications during and after surgical operation. The most frequent complication after coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) is the postoperative bleeding which is considered as a major problem. Objective: This study aims to ...

Comparison of the effect of pressure support ventilation and volume assured pressure support ventilation on weaning patients off mechanical ventilation after cardiac surgery

Background: Weaning from mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit is an important step in the treatment process. More patients in less than 6 hours after cardiac surgery can be separated from mechanical ventilation and extubated. However, 20-40% of patients after cardiac surgery, due to dysfunctional ventilator weaning response (DVWR), still remain under mechanical ventilation. Therefo...

Hypoalbuminemia as a Predictor for Complications Following Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting

Background and purpose: There is little information about the prognostic role of preoperative serum albumin levels in postoperative outcomes following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The aim of this study was to evaluate preoperative hypoalbuminemia as a predictor for complications after CABG. Materials and methods: This prospective observational study was conducted in 200 patients und...
